The role confered to the Association as one of defender of the processor's interests, allows this one to work with all members of the commercial fishing sector : fishermen, distributors, retailers and ministry civil servants. Therefore, it participates in the improvement of plants productivity and the comercialization of sea products, works with fishermen and sees to the interests of its members during the formulation of new policies by the State. Moreover, it receives, analyses and transmits to whomever all demands for sea products coming from the outside.

Q.F.P.A. participates not only in advisory committees of Fisheries and Oceans Canada but also takes part in work groups of the Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation du Québec about processing sea products. The Association is also accredited to the Régie des Marchés agricoles et alimentaires du Québec acting as a negotiator during marketing conventions intervening between the fishermen's offices and its members.

In brief, the Quebec Fish Processors Association is the preferred means of claims used by fish processors of Quebec to all fishing parties.
